Favorite Yearbook Comments 2012

Happy Last Day of School!
Always a great day!

I was just looking through comments that students wrote in my yearbook this year.  Here are a couple favorites...

"That was so funny when you chucked the laser across the room and almost hit Drake!  You are awesome!" (Why yes...yes I did accidentally throw my powerpoint clicker across the room really hard and miss a student's face by an inch.  At least the girl still thinks I'm awesome)

"You are the best! You remind me of my aunt." (I guess I'm flattered)

"Whenever I go home from this class I always want to come back."  (Oh good.  I guess this makes me a successful teacher)

"I am grateful for your instruction in the practice of clothing/sewing." (So proper)

"I know I am your best student. I am only your best student because you are the best teacher."  (He's right...he might have been my best student)

"Here's my signature so you can be a millinair." (Work on that spelling, buddy, and you'll be well on your way)

And my favorite...
"Make me a sandwich and I'll make you a scarf."

Happy Summer!!!!!

I can't believe how nice people can be!!!

I have a student who has told me about his grandma who sews and sells baby blessing dresses.  Yesterday morning, he stopped me in the hallway before school and pulled out this BEAUTIFUL white baby dress.

I was blown away at the detail and the beading and everything.  After I oohed and ahhed for a few minutes, I folded it carefully and put it back in his backpack.  I just figured he wanted to show me his grandma's amazing work.

THEN!  He came into his class a couple hours later and said, "My grandma actually wants you to have this."

Excuse me??  He couldn't be serious!

He ensured me that he was, indeed, being serious.  Apparently she thought I would appreciate it.  He said she occasionally gives them away, and she thought I would appreciate it.

Umm, yes I do!!!

I asked if he knew her address so I can send her a thank you card.  He didn't know it but told me her website.

I found the website.  I found an address and email address.  And I found the price of the dress she gave me.

Brace yourself...
$258

Oh. My. Word.  I can't even believe it!  What a kind and generous woman!  She's never even met me!

There are good people in this world.

Well that's a first...

Last week, I got an email from a student.  He called me a socialist.  That's definitely a first.

Don't worry, I had a chat with him (in person, since he didn't feel the need to confront my face in the first place), and we cleared the problem.

17 days of school left.
(2 of which I won't be here for, and the last week doesn't really count, so really...12 days of school left!)
