Water conserving toilets

Last weekend I was in the Portland airport heading back from my great spring break trip to Oregon. I made a little stop into the bathroom and saw this picture posted (not once, but twice) in the stall.
After I did my thing, I willingly followed directions and flushed UP for #1.
But as I was about to grab my things to go, my curiosity got the best of me.
I turned around and flushed DOWN...even without there being any #2 (solid waste) in the toilet.
I just had to see if there was a huge difference! And I must say, I did see a difference!
So to the city of Portland, I'm sorry I wasted some of your precious water (even though Portland receives rain about 150 days each year) in order to satisfy my curiosity!

So do you think that because of people like you the toilet is actually making the water situation worse?

I've heard of these crazy toilets before, but only outside the US. I'm so glad you got to experience both flush settings.

Now that you have shared your experience, if I ever com across one of these toilets, I will not need to experiment. You have saved the planet at least one unnecessary flush. Sleep well Great Conservator, sleep well....

So....I just saw the same thing here in Vegas! it was up at Redrock in their visitor's center. You know, I did do the same thing too, just to see if there was a difference.

This is a great one! Thanks for sharing. Airport bathrooms are always the weirdest. One of my favorites is Chicago-O'Hare and their automatic toilet seat cover dispensers. I know my keister will always be safe in the Chicago-O'Hare airport!

We have them here. My doctor has them in his office and there's another note to make sure you do it the right way or they have to plunge the toilets. Yuck!

I LOVE those toilets! It's like a welcome home present every time I fly in to PDX :)

Lol. All the new dorms on my campus are environmentally friendly and have them. :) The dorms are actually super high rated like platinum or whatever it is they rate green buildings. but the first time I saw these I laughed. We also all had to look up how the waterless urinals that don't ever flush at all work. pretty funny stuff.
